“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones” (Proverbs 12:4).
One of the marks of a godly woman is “a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price” (I Peter 3:4). Peter likens her to Sarah, and the Bible has a lot to say about those things. It is a submissive spirit. It is a meek spirit. If anyone spends much time around loud, boisterous women the difference is both apparent and alarming.
The Bible talks about a clamorous woman. Have you ever been around somebody like that? It's kind of humorous, and I don’t mean it to be insulting the female gender, but the Bible lays out some things that we men are not supposed to be, and it lays out some things that a woman is not supposed to be.
“A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself” (Proverbs 27:15-16).
Here is a guy, and he loves his wife, and she is just a pill, she's just a stinker; but he tries to cover for her. And in covering for her, it is like trying to cover up the wind. And it's also like him trying to hide his hand covered in ointment behind his back, but the ointment is still on his hand and it can still be smelled, so he doesn't succeed in hiding it. So, nobody's successful in hiding a clamorous woman. It just can't be done.
“A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones,” now, one thing about this; when a man and woman get married, they are one flesh, they are one body. In fact, when we get saved, we are made members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones; and so, when somebody is rotten in their bones, things are bad. Christian, you are part of the bride of Christ. Are you clamorous? This refers to both men and women. Do your actions as a Christian bring shame to your Saviour?
“A sound heart is the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones” (Proverbs 14:30).
Proverbs 14:30 goes beyond men and women. Envy will eat you up. envy will just work you over. It's like rottenness in the bones.
If you are married to a virtuous woman, as measured by the word of God, then you are greatly blessed, for such a woman is a divine blessing from heaven. (Pr 14:1; 18:22; 19:14; I Cor 11:7,11). Give thanks to God for saving you from a slow and painful death. Take a moment to pray for your friends that married conceited, selfish, stubborn women. What can you do today to let your wife know how much you appreciate and love her?
“Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands” (Proverbs 14:1).
“Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD” (Proverbs 18:22).
“House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD” (Proverbs 19:14).
“For a man indeed ought not to cover his head, forasmuch as he is the image and glory of God: but the woman is the glory of the man . . . Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord” (I Corinthians 11:7, 11).
