Can someone explain this to me. Why is it that the same people say these two things:

1) There is only one way to worship God and it is the Roman Catholic way.
2) The the Pope must give us freedom to worship God (Latin Mass) in a different way than the Church dictates.

Because your choice #2 is a false summary.

The Latin Mass is NOT "a different way than the Church dictates"!

“...the Church...”

The Church dictates that the Mass of the Ages is not for any Pope to ban for passing, worldly reasons.

Don't know about you, but I'm perfectly fine with Eastern Rite Catholicism, in all of its 20-some different incarnations, all of which are in communion with Rome but none of which are accurately described as "Roman".

2) The the Pope must give us freedom to worship God (Latin Mass) in a different way than the Church dictates.

Catholicism is not "whatever the current Pope's whims definitely it to be today." That's why we call it "tradition" and not just "servile obedience". We want to believe as our forefathers believed and worship as they worshipped. That's "conservative" to its core. If that was "Catholic" in 1655 and in 1955, then it's still "Catholic" today, and no Pope can declare otherwise, though this one may try.
