🤔 Gee, sounds like the strawman proposition, "They say..." and the proposer looks confused, when asked "Just, who are "they?".

So, "someone" says X, so it must be true!

How does a journalist, so called, allow his interviewee to sail past the point at which he identified the source of the controversial position being cited/discussed?

At least we got the admission “whose name he was silent on”...might the journalist or editor have held off on publication of the piece until said silence ended?

No. Of course not. That would not have served Francis’ purposes.

Instead we get mamby-pambied, mealy mouthed, weasel worded, and jesuiticized to within an inch of our intellectual lives. Pieces like this kill healthy brain cells, for sure. Which is basically the whole idea—to numb the minds of potential critics.
