“The hearing ear, and the seeing eye, the LORD hath made even both of them” (Proverbs 20:12).
God not only creates them, but He gives them light. Now, there is a way that this verse connects with that judgment in 20:8: “A king that sitteth in the throne of judgment scattereth away all evil with his eyes.” If the Lord made your eyes, and He made your ears—what can you say about God, as the Creator which gave you eyes and ears, and we are made in His image—what do we know about Him? He can see and hear pretty good also, can’t he? God sees everything that a man does and hears every word that a man says. Especially will He see when that mans bends his knees, and will hear when that man cries out, “Lord, save me!”
There are some eyes that look but don’t perceive and hear but don’t understand: “Saying, Go unto this people, and say, Hearing ye shall hear, and shall not understand; and seeing ye shall see, and not perceive: For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them” (Acts 28:26-27).
If a people’s heart is not right, and their attitude is not right; they can see a thing, but they cannot probate it, they are “unto every good work reprobate” (Titus 1:16). They can’t see the good in it. When Jesus performed miracles, they said it was of the Devil. They were so wicked and so terrible that they could not discern whether a thing was right or wrong. They could see, they could hear; but they could not judge righteously, and as a result, “lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted.”
“Yet they say, The LORD shall not see, neither shall the God of Jacob regard it” (Psalms 94:7). Well, He certainly will.
