For me the most intriguing thing about the "Good People" is that they simply do not fit into any recognizable world view. Ie, they aren't angels, demons, ghosts, space aliens, etc. There alleged existence defies all conventional secular and religious worldviews yet cultures all over the world have a belief in them (or beings like them). To just dismiss them as "demons" (or "space aliens") seems like shoe-horning them into a mold they don't fit into.
Up airy mountain
Down the rushing glen
We daren't go a-hunting
For fear of little men
Demons shape themselves into whatever forms the current culture finds pleasing or possible.
For an example, the Scottish Kelpie has analogues all over the world.

Exactly as I said.
So don’t touch ‘em.
