Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

Matthew 6

Prayer

5 “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. 6 But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. 7 And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. 8 Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.

9 “This, then, is how you should pray:

“‘Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
10  your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
11  Give us today our daily bread.
12  And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.
13  And lead us not into temptation,[a]
but deliver us from the evil one.[b]’

14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.

Our Lord and Heavenly Father

Thank You For Your Provision.

Thank You For The Beautiful Earth,

The Trees that yield their fruit in season.

The Animals that give us milk, meat, and other products,

The Crops, Flocks, and Herds,

The Birds and the Sea Creatures.

You Alone are the Creator of All!

Let all that has been Concealed
Be Revealed.

Father, We Pray For The Peace Of Jerusalem,
According To Your Will and Promise.
We Pray That You Will Forgive The Sins
of Our Own Nation,
and Lead us all to Godly Repentance.
Create in Us Clean Hearts, Oh LORD,
and Renew a Right Spirit Within Us.

This we Pray Together,
As We Await Your Messiah,
Blessed Be He,
To Set Up His Kingdom,
And Make All Things Right.

God Bless America.

Pray For The Peace of Jerusalem

And forgive us our debts,
as we also have forgiven our debtors.

Two little girls about seven years old were walking hand-in-hand when one of them noticed a sign nailed to a tree. Both girls, in the Second Grade, were learning how to read by the Old Fashioned Phonics Method (this was in 1959) and so they sounded out the letters. The following discussion brings up a debate that has not yet been solved even though it's 500 years old:

ML: Nooo Tresss-pass-ing. It says "NO TRESSPASSING." Just like in "The Our Father". Forgive us our tresspasses as we forgive those who tresspass against us.

Jeannie: That's not how it goes! It's "Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors"

ML: What's a DEBTOR?

Jeannie: I don't know, but that's how it goes. What's "TRESSPASSING"?

ML: It means going into someone's yard without permission. But I never do that. So why do I have to be forgiven for it?

Jeannie: It's DEBTS! That's what it says in the Bible. You say it the CATHOLIC way, and I say it the PROTESTANT way.

It was then that I realized that there were different "religions" out there. It seemed that the whole world was divided into Cathlics and Protestants...and, of course, the strangest People of all, Jewish People. (We lived in a large Jewish Community who had Chanukah instead of Christmas). My Mom and Jeannie's Mom were best friends till the day Jeannie's Mom died, but there was always that distinction in their relationship. One said "Debts" and the other said "Tresspasses".

Funny thing is, that in the Gospel of Luke, it says neither. It says "SINS". It all depends upon which translation you are reading.

To this day, I think about Jeannie and her Mom every time I see a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign. I hope she has forgiven me for arguing with her so many years ago!

"Forgive us our debts (or tresspasses) speaks of a Spiritual debt that none of us can pay back. I just read recently that our National Debt is over 31 TRILLION Dollars, which is beyond any possibilty of ever being resolved. The idea of a Spiritual Debt exceeding even that is totally devastating. And yet, God forgives us. When we don't forgive one another for transgressions that pale in comparison, we are, in fact, rejecting God's immeasurable gift of forgiveness. And it doesn't matter if you call it debts, tresspasses, transgressions, or sins, it's the ETERNAL TRUTH that matters.

I love to hike in the woods with my dog. However, if confronted with a "NO TRESSPASSING" sign on the trail, I change direction. Which is interesting because that is what the Hebrew Word for "Repentance" means.

Come and Pray For the Peace of Jerusalem, For Our FRiends in Need, For Persecuted Believers, and For Our Beloved Nation.

"He was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification." (Romans 4:25)

God Bless America.

Blessings To All Who Visit This Garden of Prayer.

Hallelujah and Amen
