“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction” (Proverbs 1:7 KJV).

“But fools despise wisdom and instruction,” they don’t want to have any part of it. They don’t want to know what is going to happen, they don’t want to realize that eventually they are going to have to face God.

“The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether” (Psa 19:9 KJV).

The fear of the Lord comes from the Word of God. When a system becomes totally apostate, Paul says of the Gentiles in Romans 3, “There is no fear of God before their eyes.” Deuteronomy chapter 4 tells us how to keep the fear of the Lord before the eyes of the people.

In Deuteronomy chapter 4 He is speaking of the Word of God, in verse 2 it says don’t add to the Word of God and don’t take away from it. Then He says to teach it to the people to make them wise, “Keep therefore and do them; for this is your wisdom and your understanding in the sight of the nations, which shall hear all these statutes, and say, Surely this great nation is a wise and understanding people” (Deu 4:6 KJV).

Then, in verse 10, “Specially the day that thou stoodest before the LORD thy God in Horeb, when the LORD said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.”

We must have the Words of God as God wants us to have them, and He wants them taught properly that men might learn to fear God. Folks, we can’t do wrong and get away with it. “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge.” The Bible says about an apostate world that “there is no fear of God before their eyes.” This is the reason why, nobody is preaching out of the Word of God any more. They are preaching out of their little old favorite translation, or they are preaching their Greek New Testament. They are not preaching the Word of God any more.

One man was saved, and she had been in his church that morning, and all the preacher did was speak about his travels. He went to church just to hear about some guy travelling around the world. Why waste your time? How are churches going to keep people out of hell and get them saved by telling them about your travels? –unless you went to hell and back. I’m sure if we could hear a message from the rich man tonight, we wouldn’t have any problem with that.

There was a story about a ship in the Great Lakes, pulling up their anchor and on the end of it was a car with two people inside. When the plates were checked it came up to a man that said that his wife went missing five years earlier, along with a longshoreman from the area. They found them. “Be sure your sins will find you out.” There is no fear of the Lord because there is no preaching about it from the Word of God. We can’t break the laws of God and win. Sooner or later, God will get you. You need to fear Him.

Sooner or later our ungodly dealings with people are going to catch up to us, and we are going to pay the price. We had better count the cost. We need to fear the Lord.

“. . . but fools despise wisdom and instruction,” there are a lot of fools in Proverbs. They won’t go to a Bible-believing church. When you try to talk to them about heavenly things, they don’t want to hear it—they despise wisdom and instruction. The path they are on leads to partying, and fun, and entertainment, they are not interested in changing direction—even though it be “from” destruction.

If the above is true, then the majority of professors, philosophers, and educated men of the world are fools—because they despise the Word of God and they are openly glad to tell you so.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
