Moscow, September 13, Interfax - A ban on LGBT propaganda may be discussed at State Duma hearings in October or November, and a respective bill is practically ready, State Duma Speaker Vyacheslav Volodin said.
"I propose that we schedule public hearings of the submitted legislative initiatives for the near future. Then, we will adopt the bill if you support it," Volodin said at the opening of the State Duma session on Tuesday.
The State Duma Committee on Issues of Family, Women and Children and its chairperson Nina Ostanina has submitted one of the bills, and there is also an initiative from the State Duma Committee on Information Policy and its chairman Alexander Khinshtein, Volodin said, adding that the bill was practically ready and undergoing coordination.
"This is a very important matter. We are receiving numerous requests to pass a bill that would ban the propaganda ruining our society and traditional family values," he said.
The State Duma may discuss a ban on LGBT propaganda in October or November, Volodin said in conclusion.
