“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it” (Proverbs 8:11 KJV).
“For wisdom is better than rubies,” sure it is, it will get you saved—both from hell and from this present evil world. “And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus” (II Timothy 3:15 KJV). It will make thee wise unto salvation.
A man can live sumptuously in this world for 50, 60, 70 years like the rich man in Luke 16 and then die and perish in hell for all eternity—scream and holler for eternity—you think that is worth all the rubies in the world? Wisdom is better than rubies. If all you got in this life is salvation and a Bible eking by on spare rations—even if you starve to death—you are going to have riches untold in the heavenly city for all eternity. It’s too bad that the world can’t get a hold of this truth.
People have their eyes on this life, and the things of this world, and that includes some Christians—and don’t think twice about what will come in the next life.
“. . . all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it,” nothing can be compared to it. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God” (I Corinthians 2:9-10 KJV).
Christians are not to love the things of this world, but they do. And you know what? They are all going to burn. “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth” (Colossians 3:2 KJV). “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever” (I John 2:15-17 KJV). It’s all going to burn!
“For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it.”
R. A. Torrey wrote:
“The utterances of Jesus Christ are not outgrown; they are as pre¬cious today as in that far-off time when they were first spoken. They are as perfectly applicable to present-day needs as to the needs of that day. They contain the solution of all modern indi¬vidual and social problems; they have perpetual youth. There is not one single point at which the teachings of Christ have become antiquated or outgrown.”
“That in the· ages to come he might shew the exceeding riches of his grace” (Ephesians 2:7).

Agree. I always learned from Proverbs. Wisdom is in Proverbs plus much more.
