Indiana’s Supreme Court has ruled unanimously in favor of upholding the termination of a former Catholic high school teacher due to his same-sex marriage.
The unanimous 4-0 decision affirmed that the school is protected by church autonomy under the First Amendment in its firing of Joshua Payne-Elliott in 2019.
“Religious freedom protected by the First Amendment to the United States Constitution encompasses the right of religious institutions ‘to decide for themselves, free from state interference, matters of church government as well as those of faith and doctrine,’” Justice Geoffrey Slaughter wrote in the opinion.
The ruling affirmed that the courts must allow the church to operate without state interference.

Ooh lefty heads are going to spin right off their bodies.
This case was dismissed by the trial court, reinstated by the state Court of Appeals, then dismissed again unanimously by the state Supreme Court.
The only correct call. SCOTUS has ruled that churches can hire and fire based on their religious beliefs.
They keep launching themselves against this brick wall.
The first amendment, so far, is holding.
Wow. A Friday night great story for a change.
The Jewish deli won’t make me a ham sandwich. Can I sue for that?
Let's see that applied to the institution of marriage. Those not even of the same religion as a married couple have no say in their marriage. The state has no business being a third party in it either.
The only appeal at this point would be to the US Supreme Court
Thank goodness! Finally- a few victories for the good guys-
Rule One: No Poofters!
Amen. My private academy even to this day, does not allow one butt pirate to teach at the church school.
There’s something I don’t quite get - if I understand it correctly (I have a daughter that converted to Judaism) they aren’t supposed to eat pork (cloven hoof thing) but there aren’t any rules against handling it, are there?
“The Jewish deli won’t make me a ham sandwich. Can I sue for that?”
Depends on the judge.
Yup. There are.
From Leviticus, Chapter 11, verses 8&9:
“And the pig, though it has a split hoof completely divided, does not chew the cud; it is unclean for you. You must not eat their meat or touch their carcasses; they are unclean for you.”
This ruling is a nice win for religious freedom.
Very good.
Ok thanks. Was not aware of that. Should read more ;-)
Something else to ponder ... somewhere in the Gospels, it is referenced that it is not what you put into your mouth that makes it unclean but what comes forth from your mouth.
