PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 8/17/2022

“He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD. Wherefore is there a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing he hath no heart to it? A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity” (Proverbs 17:15-17).

They condemned Christ, and they condemned the Apostles all of whom were just men. They are abominations to the Lord.

This is what God thinks of our judicial system when it justifies the wicked and condemns the innocent as a result of a tainted judge. When a city is fully controlled by wicked men, the courts are often rigged in favor of those that run with the political sway of the leadership. One thing that has become very clear in our country these days is the double standard that permeates our whole nation.

One side of the issue, generally the left, are very rarely called to question for their actions; yet when the very same thing is assumed to have been done by those on the right, they are prosecuted to the fullest extent possible.

In some cities, parents that put their children in a Christian school in order that they may become patriots and Bible-believers, they are persecuted and condemned. Yet, that same community will justify modern education and some of the things that take place in the classroom that would have been unacceptable just a generation ago. Our modern education system is the result of atheists like John Dewey that sought to create a society where God is simply not welcome. These days we are being told that anyone with long-held convictions of righteousness and morality are bigots and racists.

He wants to know where he can buy wisdom, but he really hasn’t any heart for it. He might as well just save his money. Generally, where wisdom is, the truth is—and not everyone has the heart to accept the truth. You certainly can’t get wisdom if you don’t love it. A lot of people spend a bunch of money on an education and not get a whole lot.

Even when we have done wrong, and haven’t lived up to our convictions, a real friend is a friend through thick and thin. The best biblical example of this is David and Jonathan in First Samuel 20:18-30. Though the king of Israel, his dad, stood against David, Jonathan maintained true to him all through that time, right up until his death.

That was surely very hard to do, but “a friend loveth at all times.” Now, there is something one must do in order to make a friend: “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly: and there is a friend that sticketh closer than a brother” (Proverbs 18:24). A true friend is actually not that easy to find. There is quite a difference between a friend and an acquaintance, though two people may be friendly toward each other, they are not necessarily friends. And yes, it is possible to have a friend that sticks closer to them than a brother or a sister.

“. . . and a brother is born for adversity,” there are times I wished I had a big brother, instead of being a big brother. There were times when some kid was picking on me I wished I could say, “My big brother is going to take care of you!” Brothers and sisters watch out for one another. Ecclesiastes says that two is better than one, especially when others are ganging up on you.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

That is certainly what is going on in this day and time. Spot on. The Bible says it all, all of the time.
