Death of Family: Majority of Babies Born Out of Wedlock for First Time in [British] History

The majority of babies were born to unmarried mothers in Britain for the first time in recorded history, the Office for National Statistics revealed on Tuesday.

ONS figures showed that there of the 624,828 live births recorded in England and Wales last year, over 320,000 were born out of wedlock, compared to 320,713 that were born to married parents or those in a civil partnership.

This means that 51.3 per cent of live births were born to unmarried women, the first time a majority of babies were born out of wedlock since such record began in 1845.

Up until 1978, the percentage of children born out of wedlock was less than ten per cent, however, this increased to 34 per cent by 1988 and has been over 40 per since the turn of the millennium.

The head of health analysis at the ONS, Dr James Tucker said: “This follows the long-term trend of declining marriage rates and increasing numbers of co-habiting couples seen in recent decades.

“However, caution should be taken in interpreting the numbers as we don’t yet know the full impact of the pandemic on marriage and civil partnership statistics.”

The data showed that women are waiting until older ages, with the majority of babies (372,222) being born to women over the age of 30. Conversely, the number of children being born to women under the age of 30 has fallen to half of the rate seen 50 years ago.

SATAN'S game, not God's.

Father, forgive us and have mercy, in Jesus' name, Amen.

The West is finished. Muslims have more respect for the family than most non-Muslims in the west.

The West is not finished, although we are going to have to fight hard to defend it.

With regards Muslims having more respect for family, I'm sure many have great respect for family, but then you have 'honor' killings.

This is the result of marginializing fathers.

This trend is what preceded same-sex “marriage” - it had to. In order for same-sex “marriage” to be accepted, the public first had to take the importance of marriage - and relationships in general - less and less seriously.

This is the result of marginializing fathers.

It's a result of rewarding women through the welfare state for having children out of wedlock. In both Britain and the U.S. the financial incentives for a woman having children out of wedlock are so large that it's basically a career for them. They know if they have several illegitimate children that the government will fund their lifestyle without them having to work.

Does their government pay for everything like the US does to “single” moms? If the gravy train was cit off, they would be getting married. I know of several couples who had two or more kids, never married until after all the kids were born. Mommy got all that free stuff....... because she was not married and qualified for WIC.... grrr

Are the ones in civil partnerships actually married? I guess there are some legal strings but is the real number born to unmarried women closer to 75%?

Yeah. That’s why Muslim fathers kill their own daughters for marrying the wrong guy and cousins marry.

Yeah. Real family values there.

Year “live births” “Male” “Female” “Within marriage or civil partnership” “Outside marriage or civil partnership”
2021 624,828 320,122 304,706 304,115 320,713
2020 613,936 314,470 299,466 313,370 300,566
2019 640,370 329,107 311,263 329,971 310,399
2018 657,076 337,584 319,492 339,267 317,809
2017 679,106 348,071 331,035 352,270 326,836
2016 696,271 357,046 339,225 364,521 331,750
2015 697,852 358,136 339,716 364,628 333,224
2014 695,233 356,772 338,461 364,998 330,235
2013 698,512 358,383 340,129 367,618 330,894
2012 729,674 374,346 355,328 383,189 346,485
2011 723,913 370,974 352,939 382,574 341,339
2010 723,165 370,966 352,199 384,375 338,790

Obviously this table will not be easy to read, but it the best I can do from my tablet.

Column 1 is total, 2 is males, 3 is females, 4 is married/CP, 5 is not married/CP.

in 10 years the total births are down by 100,000 and was dropping well before the pandemic. 2021 actuality saw an increase, all due to non married mothers. The getting to 50% appears to be more of a function of married woman not having babies as opposed to non married woman having more babies.

There are approximately 12 million married people in England and Wales and 75,000 civil partnerships.

There were 262,382 marriages of opposite-sex couples in the UK in 2018, the latest year for which data are available, a decrease of 3.4% from 271,668 in 2017.

There were 117,723 divorces of opposite-sex couples in the UK in 2019, the latest year for which data are available, an increase of 17.4% from 100,241 in 2018.

There were 1,180 civil partnerships formed in the UK in 2019, the latest year for which data are available, an increase of 4.5% from 1,129 in 2018.
