To: Catholic and Conservative

Have watched and read more than one argument that Benedict’s resignation is invalid. Just don’t think the case is made. You read words like maybe and possibly and debates about minutes differences between Latin words. Not saying I haven’t come eventually to the conclusion that Francis’ teaching too often is confusing and that some of his actions are scandalous but that I have never found the argument that his election is invalid convincing enough.

Whether the case is made will have to be decided by the Church at some point and not us keyboard commandos.

I will say this though...like the author, I haven’t seen any convincing explanation of the munus/ministerium problem.

This is not a minute difference—the two mean fundamentally different things, and frankly I have a hard time believing a man of Benedict’s intellect would not know that.
