The Humble Heart.

The Humble Heart.

According to the Scriptures, Lucifer was an angel of beauty, he became enamored of himself and no longer wanted to be the choir master to worship God, but wanted to be equal to the Lord God Almighty. God judged him and cast him out of heaven to the earth and he became Satan, the accuser, and the first created being who sinned. In contrast, Jesus, as the Son of God, loved his Father and humbled himself.

In the beginning of creation, God said “let us make man in our own image” and He created them male and female. What was the image of God that He used to create the female? I think it was the beauty of a spirit, in a female body, that knew she was so loved by her heavenly Father, that she worshiped God in the beauty of His holiness; as His grace touches her humble heart the beauty of a meek and quiet spirit poured out of her and she touched with love and kindness all those given to her hand to love. The heart of her husband does safely trust in her.

Last evening I said “goodnight, manly part of my heart” and he said “sleep well ,warm soft part of my heart”. We have been married for forty years now. It has been the commitment to honor God first that has given our marriage a tender loyalty and freely giving of our all to each other. Celebrating our 40th, we went camping at a lake park and while there we enjoyed the water and while I was swimming, my husband saw a big turtle behind me. He wadded calmly out and quietly told me “honey don't panic”. As soon as he said that I just knew something scary was behind me, so I grabbed hold of his ankles with both hands, He told me “I sure hope that's you grabbing me, because I came out to tell you there was a big turtle right behind you”. I replied, “well after forty years I still hold you”. “You hold me and get us out of here” she entreated. The turtle was no threat but my husband, as is his manner, was protective of me and came to see that I was safe. As a couple walking willingly with our Lord, we are the hands that He uses in the building of the two of us into one place where love lives and breathes fresh every day.

In the next part of our lives, we have time to choose how we are going to use our time absorbing God's creation across America. Soon, we are going to the great-lakes shores. Researching our trip, we watched a show about how huge cargo ships went down in storms. One case told of how the Captain of the “Esmeralda” sailed the lakes. He would often have his wife and children aboard, but with a storm threatening, he put them safely ashore before continuing on into a “November Witch” in 1913. He wrote in his diary of his love for them, but his ship was lost and he with it. When his body washed ashore a year later his wife was given the diary and she dried out the papers and from the depths of the icy waters their love story lives on.

As we plan to go to Door County, Wisconsin, we look to open the door that God has shown us to take, and we look to Him to light the way on our journey. With God's Holy Spirit inside us to light our love, we will hold hands as we stand in the sand, looking out over the expanse of water, to recognize those who have gone on before. God giving us His joy, to make all we see become a perfect memory; God gave us Jesus and Jesus presents us to God!

One day, we will take our children out west to Montana, where we will walk in the glory of a sunrise over the mountains, acknowledging that our days are a gift to savor. The sunset of a glory that will never fade away but grow in brilliant bursts of glory! Love is an eternal destination of the soul. My soulmate and I will live forever in the heart of God!
