On July 17, the celebration in memory of St. Serge of Radonezh, the famous early XV century icon of the Holy Trinity by St. Andrei Rublev (event of Gen.18:1-8) was transferred from the Tretiakov Art Gallery in Moscow to the Holy Trinity – St, Serge monastery. A special showcase for the icon was provided to protect it and secure its safety. After the celebrations was over, the icon was returned to the museum.

– We are grateful to the Ministry of Culture and the Tretyakov Gallery for the permission to move the ancient icon. It can certainly be considered a precedent, but such decisions require a serious legal foundation," said Sergey Gavrilov, Chairman of the State Legislative Assembly Commission on Property, Land and Property Relations.

The lawmaker noted the importance of understanding that the icons are “not works of art in the classical sense. They are objects of religious reverence, they are part of our religious worldview”.

Regarding the bringing of the Trinity icon to Lavra, the parliamentarian expressed confidence that “the presence of this icon in one of the most important sites in Russia for Orthodox believers serves to heighted the authority of the Church and state and contributes to the spiritual unity of our people, which is presently suffering from spiritual and economic aggression”.
