SIXTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME
MATTHEW 13:1–9
Friends, our Gospel for today is the parable of the sower and the seed.
It has to do with the growth and development of the kingdom of God.
We hear that Jesus “went out of the house and sat down by the sea”
and that large crowds gathered around him.
This is Jesus speaking to the whole world.
Sitting down, he is, again, in the attitude of the ancient teacher and judge,
and he speaks the parable of the sower.
The sower sows far and wide, some of the seed landing on the path, where the birds eat it up;
some falling on rocky ground, where it is scorched in the sun;
some sown among thorns, where the life is choked off;
and some sown on rich soil, where it bears fruit thirty, sixty, or a hundredfold.
Keep in mind that Jesus himself, in person, is the seed sown.
Jesus is the Logos that wants to take root in us.
This seed is sown far and wide, through all sorts of means, but in you,
let the seed be sown deep, where it can’t be stolen, scorched, or choked.

KEYWORDS:
+++On that day,
Jesus went out of the house and sat down by the sea.
Such large crowds gathered around him
that he got into a boat and sat down,
and the whole crowd stood along the shore.
And he spoke to them at length in parables, saying:
“A sower went out to sow.
And as he sowed, some seed fell on the path,
and birds came and ate it up.
Some fell on rocky ground, where it had little soil.
It sprang up at once because the soil was not deep,
and when the sun rose it was scorched,
and it withered for lack of roots.
Some seed fell among thorns, and the thorns
grew up and choked it.
But some seed fell on rich soil, and produced fruit,
a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold.
Whoever has ears ought to hear.”+++

Tradition can be like a thorn. It chokes out the Word of God.
We have to be careful not to let the thorn overtake the crop.

True...
But that is a bit of an unqualified statement.
Certainly you don't mean traditions in the Bible...
or those that St. Paul tells us to hold fast to...
But yes, the misuse of tradition certainly harmed the Hebrews,
and then the Jews.

Ah... there it is...
So for those then who reject the Catholic Church-
they are in the clear then!
No worries, right?
So what's the big deal about tradition... what's all the fuss about?

Absolutely not.
Not walking back ONE word of my post mister!
You're just unable to comprehend what it means.
Traditions of men - Luther, Calvin, et.al - YES - THOSE are traditions of men that can choke off Authentic belief.
Sacred Traditions found in the Church today- rooted in Scripture - are Good and pleasing to God- and are what The Church has held fast to - as St. Paul encouraged- during its entire 2000 year run.
That other faith beliefs that have come along in recent years, in the United States specifically, disconnected to the Christian traditions -
and so do not have those traditions-
need not be concerned with what which does not pertain.

Uh-huh.
Sure.
Next time use the echo chamber, “Catholic only” label.
It perfectly suits your “faith“.
Bye!

I agree ... this is likely not the first time you’ve been wrong on this topic. It’s probably a habit.

What?
Are you in the 4th grade?
With a fancy retort like that?
Have you heard the one about “rubber and glue”?
What a moron.
Did you even READ the article?
Did you see the other moron agree, then backtrack?
Honestly- the scales on the eyes of you folks…
Aren’t you embarrassed?
Does your mother know you’re using her computer?
Have a nice day.
Idiot.
