Because you said that the Holy Spirit played no role in the election of +Francis. That is clearly impossible; like everything else, the Holy Spirit either positively willed it or permitted it to happen.
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
Well my point is that although saying everything that happens is willed or permitted by God is true, because of the nature of God it is also tautological, and therefore meaningless. But it is more than meaningless because it implies that “Que Sera, Sera” is a morally appropriate response to evil! I’ve spoken with Mennonites and Amish who hold strongly to that view as their rationale for not exercising their right to vote in political elections.
I recall them saying we’re not concerned by everything is in God’s hands, i.e., “all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to his purpose.” Are you a Mennonite by any chance?

No, it really doesn't. Mother Teresa had the right idea when she said "PRAY like everything depends on God. WORK like everything depends on you."

Are you a Mennonite by any chance?

No, I've been a Catholic ever since I was baptized at the age of three weeks, 60+ years ago.

Yes, it would have been more accurate had I written “But it is more than meaningless because, for many people, it implies ...”

Be careful quoting Mother Teresa. She also said,

“I’ve always said we should help a Hindu become a better Hindu, a Muslim become a better Muslim, a Catholic become a better Catholic.”

Thank you for sharing that. For me it is an eye-opening revelation.

Interesting. What do you see in Orthodox churches that makes them ‘orthodox’ - pun intended?
>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
I have attended Mass at both Greek and Russian Orthodox churches in Russia and in Greece. There is a very evident spirituality evident at those Masses that is NOT present in any Novus Ordo Mass I have ever attended.

But perhaps The easiest way I can answer your question is to encourage you to go on Amazon or visit a bookstore, especially one connected to any Eastern Orthodox church, and pick up a booklet or two such as the following ones:

Our Thoughts Determine Our Lives by Elder Thaddeus of Vitovnica; [5-star rating on Amazon]

Elder Melchizedek: Hermit of the Roslavl Forest by Serge Bolshakoff;

On Ascetical Life by St. Isaac of Nineveh;

Salt of the Earth: An Encounter with Holy Russian Elder Isidore of Gethsemane Heritage;

(AND MY FAVORITE) Interior Silence: Elder Michael, The Last Great Mystic of Valaam by Nun Maria Stakhovich & Sergius Bolshakoff

I have several more similar booklets I could recommend but they are not handy at the moment and I cannot recall their titles.

You’re very welcome.

As for your comments about the Orthodox Church, I agree that they seem more Catholic than the Novus Ordo. However, if you are following the pre-Vatican II teachings as you say you are, you should not be assisting here. They are schismatic even if they have the true and valid sacraments.

Keep reading and learning!

Pius, with all due respect, I’ve been reading and learning since 1947, and throughout those decades I think I’ve already learned a thing or two about the subjects of our discussions.
But I’ll heed your advice in case I’ve overlooked something important!

I am sure you have, but we are all still learning for sure.

I will look for a pre-Vatican II link regarding attending Orthodox, schismatic liturgies. I believe it is in the 1917 Canon Law. The 1983 Vatican II/JPII Canon Law allows for participation in non-Catholic services.

This link provides numerous quotes from canon law, popes, etc that help point you to the Catholic position on the condemnation of participation in non-Catholic services:
