Some good points here, but hell is not a psychological state on earth.

Still it seems worth pointing out that a spiritual encounter can have a naturalistic “explanation,” while still remaining a valid spiritual encounter, in that it actually touches some spiritual reality. For example, shortly after a very invasive surgery, I experienced the reality of Hell also. The fact that I was on heavy-duty pain medication would offer a naturalistic explanation for such an unusual experience. Yet I do not doubt that I came face-to-face with real malevolence.
