The Azov movement arose

The Azov movement consists of about 3000 people, and these days is literally staffed with hundreds of Jews, Romani and other minorities, as the original "far rightists" abandoned it and started their own political party years ago--with less than a percent of popular support.

Azov is the eternal boogieman Russia raises, even though all Russian separatists who were sent into Ukraine to setup the DNR/LNR are known literal Nazis and anti-semites, such as Igor Girkin-Strelkov (former minister of defense of the DNR). These men have either been photographed actually waltzing around in Nazi uniforms, or they have written/founded extreme Nazi magazines and propaganda.

If Azov is this big problem in Ukraine for Russia, why does Russia utilize actual Nazis to invade the country and serve as the puppet leaders of the separatists?

You apparently missed my point, which was not to defend the Russian invasion or its propaganda but to explain what may have caused the Ukrainian priest to make his claims. In the aftermath of the Maidan Revolution, the country was very unstable and extremist groups like Azof filled the void and often acted as proxies - invited or not - for the government. It does not seem farfetched to me that a nationalist paramilitary group would target civilians deemed sympathetic to Russia and that an Orthodox priest might interpret that as an attack on Christianity. By the way, he explicitly denied that only Orthodox Christians were targeted.
