“Let not mercy and truth forsake thee: bind them about thy neck; write them upon the table of thine heart” (Proverbs 3:3 KJV).
Any Christian that has been sold a bill of goods on a new Bible translation has allowed truth to forsake him. Why?
Truth sets you free, John 8.
It will set you free from lies. How can anyone lie to you if you have the truth? “Surely in vain the net is spread in the sight of any bird” (Proverbs 1:17 KJV). You are not going to capture a bird setting a trap in front of him. It’s got to be hid from him, it’s got to put there it is not manifest or revealed to him. You can’t deceive an individual who has the truth right in front of him. Unless, of course, they willingly want to be deceived. Do all you can to get as much truth as you can that you might not be deceived.
When it comes to soul-winning, to witnessing, most people reject the truth. “But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth” (Acts 1:8 KJV). Well, we ought to witness. People know they ought to witness. They’ll look right at you and say, “I know,” but they won’t. The willfully, willingly reject it. “. . . let not mercy and truth forsake thee.”
Get a hold of all the truth you can. He said, “But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves” (James 1:22 KJV).
“. . . bind them about thy neck,” of course, the Jew wore those phylacteries where they wrote verses out for memory.
“. . . write them upon the table of thine heart,” it ought to be an outward testimony and an inward relationship. Memorize it, hide it in your heart. Paul wrote: “Ye are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read of all men” (II Corinthians 3:2 KJV). In other words, “mercy and truth” ought to be revealed through the Christian. What is there inwardly will be revealed outwardly.
“. . . write them upon the table of thine heart,” memorize them, etch them in there and verse 4 will be the result . . .
