National Catholic Reporter? Really?
Frustrated by poor communication and a workplace culture they say has been warped by secrecy and hypermasculinity, at least a half-dozen Word on Fire employees in recent months have resigned from the Catholic outlet founded by Los Angeles Auxiliary Bishop Robert Barron.
What exactly is hypermasculinity in a Catholic non-profit?
Unbelievable that catholics still support this decrepit, evil, blasphemous so-called church. I mean, how much more low can you go than buggering children?
Bad management, or something worse?
In the wrong context, you can read that like, “protecting the diocese from lawsuits was paramount on his mind.” But this was spoken as reassurance to his employees, so in that context, it reads like, “protecting all of you, including our common purpose, is paramount in my mind.”
Let’s get this straight: None of the accusers worked for Word On Fire, so the report does not detail any Boys-will-be-boys work culture. The employee was fired for behavior with no linkage to his workplace. The fact that there was no allegation of criminal behavior means that the workplace is making it their business where the law says it is not. Good for them; they need to uphold a higher standard.
As for the insinuation that Barron purposely chose a muscle man to satisfy some gay lust, the world is full of gay muscle men. Gloor’s misconduct was heterosexual in nature.
Shamefully, we can’t tell if something worse is going on here... if there are indications that Barron is homosexual, these former employees can hardly say that’s the problem. They’ll be crucified as homophobes in the press. If only the Catholic Church’s current mortal leadership had a proper sense of disgust at heresy, but supporting Latin Mass can get you removed from a diocese, but bishops calling for church blessing of anal sex doesn’t.
So they plan to kick him upstairs by making him a bishop in central Minnesota.
