WASHINGTON, D.C. — House Speaker Nancy Pelosi pushed back Tuesday on the decision by San Francisco’s Catholic archbishop to deny her Communion over her support of abortion, saying she respects that people have opposing views but not when they impose them on others.
The California Democrat says she comes from a large family with many members who oppose abortion. “I respect people’s views about that. But I don’t respect us foisting it onto others.” Pelosi added, “Our archbishop has been vehemently against LGBTQ rights. In fact he led the way in an initiative on the ballot in California.”
Pelosi made her comments on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.” In a letter last month to Pelosi, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone said he would refuse her Communion after she vowed to codify into law the Supreme Court’s Roe vs. Wade decision establishing a constitutional right to abortion. That legislation passed the House but died last week in the Senate.
Pelosi said women and families need to know this is about more than abortion. “These same people are against contraception, family planning, in vitro fertilization. It’s a blanket thing and they use abortion as the front man for it.”
Cordileone has said he told Pelosi that she must either repudiate her support of abortion rights or stop speaking publicly about her Catholic faith. In a separate letter to church members, he said he had asked several times to meet with Pelosi but that her office didn’t respond or told him she was busy.
“After numerous attempts to speak with her to help her understand the grave evil she is perpetrating, the scandal she is causing, and the danger to her own soul she is risking, I have determined that the point has come in which I must make a public declaration that she is not to be admitted to Holy Communion,” Cordileone wrote.
Over the past year, Cordileone has been among the most outspoken U.S. bishops advocating that Communion be denied to President Joe Biden and other politicians who support abortion.
However, each bishop has authority in his own diocese on this matter, and the archbishop of Washington, Cardinal Wilton Gregory, has affirmed that Biden is welcome to receive the sacrament there.

< I even told him that Freepers were PRAYING for him!!! This was right after he got the SF gig!
She’s more powerful than the church...
She thinks...
Nancy is still going to hell
She can open up a box of Ritz Crackers and call it her own holy host (probably calls herself the ‘holy’ host).
I am glad she is attacking him. I am glad this feud is out in the open and there is transparency on both sides. Let’s see how this plays out.
What took them so long?
Face it Nancy, Satan has a nice room waiting for you when you croak.
So this should be where it sits for the time being.
She has received a publicly-deluvered fraternal correction from her archbishop.
At the same time, her recalcitrant behavior has netted her a persistent consequence, i.e., refusal to distribute the Holy Sacrament of the Altar to her in the Communion procession.
She has replied to her local ordinary verbally, not with a denial of doctrine constituting heresy and meriting actual excommunication, but with a juvenile gaslighting ad hominum attack on Archbishop Cordileone, and a facile misstatement about the Church’s actions and motives on this topic.
Let her stew for a while and see if Cardinal Gregory gets tired if seeing her appraching his priests for Communion every Sunday.
Hubris.
Be interesting to be a fly on the wall when nanzi has a face to face with her maker and tries to convince HIM to give her a pass. Pretty sure excuses won’t be accepted. But hey....she can try! A practical application of Psalms 2:4 applies here.
Pope Pelosi has now Papal Infallibility. She can tell Bishops, Archbishops and Cardinals the Laws of the Church as she sees them without remorse. Pelosi must feel that Jesus was in error regarding his teachings and she can dictate to all mortal human beings the laws of God.
So rules suddenly don’t matter to Princess Pelosi?!?! Then why arrest all those 1/6 participants? Rules concerning who can enter the Capitol, and when, are imposing someone’s will on others, so apparently they can be disregarded. 🤣
The Catholic Church and many other organizations and individuals consider homosexuality to be immoral. That is different from a government declaring the behavior illegal.
Pelosi could say she considers it immoral but does not want government to call this shot.
I read over the headline too fast. I read it as “Pelosi pukes back”....
Pelosi just needs to find a religion she agrees with. Perhaps Wiccan or Satanism.
Cardinal Gregory is an embarrassment to the Catholic faith.
It’s not complicated, he is either a bought and paid for religious politician or he is not a true man of the cloth. What kind of religious can take the stand he has??
