The question is how to get out of this mess?

As I see it, you have three possible courses of action:

1. Deal with it and keep the church together. IMHO that means the doctrine is undermined and the church loses its way, forever. It’s always much harder to undo sin and liberalism than to implement it. One talks of accountability, personal culpability, that there are risks associated with ones decisions. The other blames others for ones misery, asks for the collective to pay for poor choices, and the individual isn’t culpable... What do you think we as a nature tend to prefer? As time goes on not only is he perverting the doctrine, he’s installing others like him in key positions and the folks get a taste for the false doctrine he’s selling himself with. It will be very hard to undo.

2. Schism. There is a reason why you are hearing talk of this in some of the services. I heard a Catholic priest mention this as part of the Easter service and how horrible it is, wrong. I’m sure there is a reason why it was mentioned. If I were part of the Catholic institution I too would not favor this option, but if we’re talking about preservation of the Christian values this church once held to, that seems like the most viable solution.

3. Dispose of this Pope. Maybe back pressure from some of the leadership under him, or a massive revolt by the people... But as a last ditch effort and possibly under threat of another schism, force his removal. He surely will not go voluntarily, he’s a celebrity and basic premise of this thread isn’t to far off.

Sadly, those like Ratzinger will let go easily. People like that put the institution ahead of themselves (selfless service, duty, honor, integrity) and when convinced it best serves the church to leave, he will. But some turd like this guy (his name shouldn’t be mentioned) will not go easily, after all he’s the #1 guy, he’s popular and even on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine (multiple times and all with very favorable write ups)
He gets to mingle on the world’s stage, everyone bows, serves... His picture and name is known around the planet.

People like him are easy to spot. They use this liberal rhetoric to “self promote” and appear benevolent, charitable, fair, forgiving, but in reality it’s “all about me.” These people lead folks into ruin and destroy what they pretend to lead. You see his kind everywhere, in politics, the arts, academia, so called counselors, religious leaders... I’m sure if politician were to offer free heroin for addicts in some new BS program intended to prevent ODs, that too would be popular among addicts (who knows, this place is so weird they might already be doing that somewhere). He’s basically doing that, but with the church doctrine.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/biden-mayorkas-veterans-affairs-resources-southern-border-migrants. Because he cares so much. Or is he worried and this boosts him among Latinos? This sort of buying the masses is prevalent everywhere, not just with politicians. For a pure Machiavellian leader like this it’s a simple math problem. 4.6 million Vets vs. 44 million Latinos. Vets are majority Republican. Latinos are majority Democrat. Democrats are in trouble for the mid terms. What to do? Obvious, fu#$ the Vets and buy the Latinos. But here is the problem. So called leaders like this are basically pretending to be nice guys while in reality they are ALWAYS cheating, stealing and lying their way to power. Do you think it’s any different for the current Pope that is telling folks what they want to hear?
