Dail Mass Gospel Reflection- One, In Being With The Father
Word on Fire Ministry ^ | 05.03,22 | Aux. Bishop R. Barron

FEAST OF SAINTS PHILIP AND JAMES, APOSTLES

JOHN 14:6-14

Friends, today we read the wonderful and mysterious passage from the fourteenth chapter of John’s Gospel.
The disciples are gathered around Jesus at the Last Supper,
abiding in intimacy with him,
asking questions and seeking wisdom.

Then listen to Jesus’ words: “If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Paul refers to Jesus as the “icon of the invisible God.”
What both Jesus and Paul are saying is that Jesus’ words are the Father’s words
and his deeds are the Father’s deeds.

Philip, one of the first disciples chosen, still doesn’t get this.
He says, “Master, show us the Father.”
What he missed was the humility of the Logos:
“The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.”
Neither the words nor the deeds of Jesus are “his own.”
They are received from the Father.

TOPICS: Catholic
KEYWORDS:
+++Jesus said to Thomas,
“I am the way and the truth and the life.
No one comes to the Father except through me.
If you know me, then you will also know my Father.
From now on you do know him and have seen him.”
Philip said to him,
“Master, show us the Father, and that will be enough for us.”
Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you for so long a time
and you still do not know me, Philip?
Whoever has seen me has seen the Father.
How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’?
Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me?
The words that I speak to you I do not speak on my own.
The Father who dwells in me is doing his works.
Believe me that I am in the Father and the Father is in me,
or else, believe because of the works themselves.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whoever believes in me will do the works that I do,
and will do greater ones than these,
because I am going to the Father.
And whatever you ask in my name, I will do,
so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If you ask anything of me in my name, I will do it.”+++

“Jesus said to Thomas,
‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’”

That’s interesting. Only a day or two ago some FReeper told me that Mary is the go-between.

What is the latest word with respect to the recent allegation of abuse at Bishop Barron’s WOF ministry, do you know?

That’s also wierd because neither my Luther’s (small or large) Catechism nor my Catechism of the Catholic Church say this. I think your anonymous FReeper may be confused.

Just for a quick blurb I pulled this from the Vatican’s online Catechism: “Mary’s function as mother of men in no way obscures or diminishes this unique mediation of Christ, but rather shows its power.”

That’s interesting. Only a day or two ago some FReeper told me that Mary is the go-between.

Well Madame…

I hope you assured that FReeper that the very last thing The Blessed Virgin Mary said as recorded in the Gospel was:

“DO WHATEVER HE TELLS YOU”

And likewise informed your FRiend one of the last things Christ said, dying on the Cross was:

“BEHOLD YOUR MOTHER"

(51 And he went down with them and came to Nazareth, and was obedient to them; and his mother kept all these things in her heart.)

Think of the Blessed Virgin Mary as the Mother of Christ- first.
Know that she can bring us to Christ, and intercede for us. But stop short of thinking she would ever take the place of Christ, but only being as a conduit to him. Her soul magnifies the Lord- and always will…
The Catholic Church always has taught that Jesus Christ alone redeemed mankind (neither Mary nor any other - has the power to do so), and ultimately ONLY through Christ - are grace and salvation attained.

Like the saying goes… “Aim at Mary… you’ll hit Jesus, everytime.”

“I think your anonymous FReeper may be confused.”

Not anonymous.

“Salvation through the Virgin Mary, who bore Jesus.”

Sexual Misconduct and Employee Intimidation at Word on Fire

“Sexual Misconduct and Employee Intimidation at Word on Fire”

__________

Thank you, ebb tide.

MurphsLaw, there’s a way or ways to communicate via these comm boxes that conveys credibility, humility, accountability... Suffice it to say, what you did with me here didn’t quite hit the mark.

For a number of excellent reasons, my antennae are finely tuned these days for signs of gaslighting coming my way, by or from “whomsoever”, as Fr. Hesse was often heard to say (translating from the Latin).

It is often said that a word to the wise is sufficient. My Word on Fire to the wise would be, everyone should learn what gaslighting is, and, knowing what those things are that constitute gaslighting, don’t do those things. If one finds oneself doing those things, one should check oneself, stop doing those things, and reform oneself ASAP, for one’s own benefit as well as that of those around oneself and those with whom one finds oneself communicating.

As always, your mileage may vary, and as to the proverbial shoe, if it fits, wear it, and if it doesn’t, by all means, don’t.

Poor writing (not yours) IMO. For Luther’s take, this is a nice summary:

https://tomperna.org/2017/10/30/mondays-with-mary-martin-luthers-teaching-on-the-blessed-virgin-mary/

It’s been my experience that the casual internet writer chooses phrasing less carefully than church leaders writing for public edification (self included).

You troll me pal, I have no interest in your game.
Not the first time I've told you that.
So I don't bother with any of your hateful, schismatic outrage.. Others may enjoy and find comfort in that, I ignore.
You will not prevail against The Church.

If you have been scandalized, my suggestion for you is to call the cops.
Until the next outrage or scandal requires you, of course.

Suffice it to say, what you did with me here didn’t quite hit the mark.

So you're saying I have room to improve then?
I hope so... anyway.
Perhaps you've forgotten about our private reply conversations back in March?
Where you shared these same concerns already?
Now, as was then, I am not moved, or victimized.

Now regarding our previous conversations, I am surprised you would pull the sensitivity card now when I quite appropriately, [and seriously] deferred your desire to know the "latest" scandal concerning WOF to the community watchdog.
Sorry, I am truly unconcerned.

Now you may take offense to that, that is your choice...
but I will repeat what I said to you in March...and will ask...
Have I ever posted ANYTHING written or video- from this insightful Bishop that you disagreed with or took offense to? - or unworthy of an evangelistic outreach?

Has there been even ONE sentence I have posted that you have been scandalized by?

I would like to know.

You are gaslighting. You really should cut that out.

You are saying I said something I did not say. This is a brutal tactic of gaslighters, often used to weaken a targeted victim’s grip on the details of relevant actions or situations or vignettes that took place in the past. In other words, cause him to doubt his own memory, because, who would be so foul or evil as to lie to him? Certainly not [insert name of stealthy gaslighter here] with whom he is familiar and has a relationship!

I did not express myself in the manner you say I did, to wit:

“your desire to know the “latest” scandal”

I also never previously shared any concerns with you about alleged abuse at Word on Fire, instead raising, if I recall correctly, concerns about doctrinal weakness on Bishop Barron’s part.

You seem to be portraying me as a person given toward baiting someone about whom I have some relevant information (i.e., your admiration for the talent and work of Bishop Barron).

You also seem to be tagging me as a scandal monger, whereas I was actually in earnest with you. I trusted you to be up front with me about what you know. I would have been open to consider explanatory information from you that might place the Word on Fire ministry in general, and Bishop Barron in particular, in a less critical light.

I considered you to likely be a good source for accurate information, even favorable information, relating to the Word on Fire ministry because we had already spoken on that topic, and you had already explained why you were more favorably inclined toward the same than was I.

Now to what I ACTUALLY said, or more specifically, asked about:

I asked if you had the latest word on the recent scandal regarding the Word on Fire ministry.

(And it does appear to be a scandal, along the very same lines of the Cardinal Archbishop Joseph “nighty-night baby” scandal, with Cardinal Tobin, by the way, being an avid weightlifter.)

You did not come forward with any such information, but instead initially responded in a way that bordered on gaslighting, hence the substance of my response.

I had to wait until ebb tide chimed in to get that information.

Now I am even more persuaded that you are intentionally gaslighting me, just as I warned you not to do. Please consider that, like Bo knows baseball, I know gaslighting. Not by dishing it out, mind you, but by being on the receiving end of it, with the scars and receipts to prove it.

Life Coach Patricia Evans does not call it gaslighting in a book she wrote in this area that was first published, as I recall, in 1990. But she very helpfully recognizes this as a pernicious species of abuse.

You should read up. If you see yourself fitting the profile, you should certainly repent, and reform.

By the way. most abusers of this type never put in the hard work necessary to reform themselves, even if they can be brought around to begin recognizing the damage their abuse is doing. Those few that do refirm are apparently excusively male. At least that is the specific clinical experience of Ms. Evans up until about 2019 (that is, zero such females ended up reforming). I see this as an issue of accountability. Many have asserted that accountability is not generally a strong suit of members of the fairer sex.

Since you asked, no, I have no issues or criticisms for you on this score. Please consider, though, that if I can avoid reading or listening to anything coming from Bishop Barron or the Word on Fire ministry, I do just that. Just like I have always done with respect to Barack Obama. Except for the self-deprecating bit he did that one time at the White House Correspondent’s Dinner with that Key and Peele guy in which he claimed with a straight face never to harbor anger, while actually harboring a lot of anger. That was very funny.

Don’t flatter yourself. My problem is with the homo-friendly heretic, Booby Barron. You post his daily emails as articles with links to a website that has nothing to do with the emails.

As long as you pimp for the heretic, who happens to have a certain fascination for Martin Luther, a fellow heretic, I’ll call him out.

The heretic dares hope Hell is empty, despite Jesus Christ’s warnings that Hell is not empty.

“...schismatic..”

Research the late Fr. Hesse’s interviews/allocutions on the events leading up to, during and since Vatican II and tell me if he is right or wrong about who is/are now in schism.

I read a bit on Fr. Hesse.
No doubt an intelligent man.
Though not without the possibility of being fallible. As all men are.
More on that later.
Y or N Question: Are you SSPX?

If so, why the need to conceal?
Ebbeneezer, despite his flaws, is at least somewhat public with the root of his condemnations...
