“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death. The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them; because they refuse to do judgment” (Proverbs 21:6-7).
We see here someone who is hasty—they want riches so bad that they are willing to lie to get them. They haven’t thought the situation out, see “The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness.” The diligent man knows it is better to wait and not be hasty, to do it right so that there will be a judgment of God or of man to take it away from him.
“The getting of treasures by a lying tongue is a vanity tossed to and fro of them that seek death,” in other words, “all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death” (Revelation 21:8). A man is simply seeking death by cutting corners and lying to get what he wants.
Sadly, even saved people spend a large part of their time lying to get what they want. We are so often so prone just to justify our actions, to justify our desires and lusts, and it ends up in tragedy of their part, and even in the lives of others.
The reason it is called a vanity is because God is going to judge it: “But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition” (I Timothy 6:9). A vanity is an empty possession. They are willing to lie to get it, and the end result is death.
“The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them,” there is more than one way to rob somebody. You can stick a gun in their ribs and take all their money, which is one way to do it; or you can tell them that you have a product that they need and can’t do without and must have it. You can talk them into buying it even though you know it is nothing what you claim it to be. Of course, they don’t call that robbery; they call it advertising. Same end, just a different name. There is more than one way to rob someone.
Now, there are religious robbers out there. They tell people that they can heal them, or they tell them that they have special spiritual answers for them if they will just put so much money in the plate. You have palm readers, mostly down south. They have their shops set up in their homes. It’s funny how they prey on poor people, but they do. They well sell you some spiritual enlightenment for a sum of money. These are other forms of robbery.
People that generally want something the easy way, or something for nothing, are easy marks for conmen. A man cannot be conned if he isn’t looking for an easy buck.
“The robbery of the wicked shall destroy them [they reap what they sow]; because they refuse to do judgment.”

I got saved in March of 1984. I was in my early 30’s, a “Lost Believer” who was almost totally ignorant of what was contained in the Scriptures. “But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost:” 2 Cor 4:3
My younger brother was working with a Southern Baptist preacher from Pensacola named Dr. Peter S. Ruckman. My brother would send me cassette tapes and books that Dr. Ruckman had recorded and after hearing him preach the Gospel of Christ my Life was transformed !
I read his books like, “The History of the New Testament Church”, “Israel : A Deadly Piece of Dirt”, “The Book of Genesis”, “the Book of Revelation”, etc ! I have read them all several times ! VERY edifying !
Over the years I had several opportunities to hear Dr. Ruckman preach in person and I presently have many of the books he had published. I have the, “Ruckman Reference Bible” by my bedside.
“How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?” Rom 10:14 For me THAT preacher was Dr. Ruckman.
Thank you for your post. I was saved in 1976 and shortly after went to a Bible college that pretty much basically taught me that Dr. Ruckman was to be avoided at all cost. After studying his material for the last few years I can understand why. He rubbed their biblical ignorance in their face. In essence, most Bible colleges despise him because he is right and they know they are wrong. They don’t care for the fact that he lets them know that they corrupt the word of God for a paycheck and retirement plan.
Sure, God’s “junkyard dog” was rough, but its better to hear it straight and true than sugar-coated lies that teach their students to study Bibles that are Roman Catholic in origin. People that say they “believe the Bible is inspired in the ‘originals’” are flat-out lying. Where are the originals? There are none. What we have are perfect copies that were faithfully maintained all the way from the day the letters were written and delivered to the churches to this day. God is either able to keep his word preserved unto all generations or He is nothing but a liar. Let God be true and every man a liar!
I am presently listening to Dr. Ruckman’s Sunday school study of Israel: A Deadly Piece of dirt (available through the bookstore) which goes into more depth than the book, I believe.
