I don’t think it is wasting time to read and reflect on it, but I agree that one can obsess too much about it to the detriment of other items.

Amen. The time was near, even for the original hearers/readers of the Book of Revelation 2000 years ago. Just like for each of us, the end--our own end-- can happen any moment. Yes, it is more profitable for us to meditate on that than trying to match up prophecy in the Bible with the daily news.
