PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 4/8/2022

“Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips” (Proverbs 8:6-7).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things. For my mouth shall speak truth; and wickedness is an abomination to my lips” (Proverbs 8:6-7).

Three things: Excellent things, right things, and things that are truthful. Where do we hear anything like this in the New Testament?

“Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things” (Philippians 4:8 KJV).

These things come from the Word of wisdom, come from the mouth of wisdom, and come from the fount of wisdom. Jesus Christ is to us wisdom (I Corinthians 1:30). He is “wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption,” wisdom is the very first thing. Why? Because a man will never get saved until he has a fear of God, and fear is the beginning of wisdom. Then, after you get saved, God gives us righteousness.

“Hear; for I will speak of excellent things; and the opening of my lips shall be right things,” they may not be the kind of things that you like to hear, but they’ll be right things. They might not flatter you, but they are the things that you need to hear.

NOTE: Verses 6-36 can be applied to Jesus Christ and is the excellent discourse on wisdom. And anyone that knows wisdom, or is used greatly of the Lord, can be applied to them.

“For my mouth shall speak truth,” if any man speak, let him speak from the very source of truth: “If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen” (I Peter 4:11 KJV).

Learn the book, let it become a part of you, and when you talk—talk like the Book talks. If the Bible is against something, then you are against it. If the Bible is for something, then you are for it.

“Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 2:5 KJV). In other words, we are to look at things in life and in the world just the way that He looks at them. Just like the Word of God looks at them, and it isn’t always easy to do that.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
