Moscow, March 28, Interfax - The Russian Orthodox Church hopes that a new meeting between Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis will take place this year.

"Preparations are being made for a meeting between the pope and the patriarch, which will take place this year. It will be an offline meeting," Metropolitan Hilarion, head of the Synodal Department for External Church Relations, said on the program Church and the World on Rossiya-24 TV.

According to earlier reports, the patriarch and the pope conducted a videoconference on the situation in Ukraine on March 16.

Metropolitan Hilarion said the online meeting had to be held without waiting for an offline meeting "as events are unfolding rapidly."

"In particular, of course, the heads of the churches emphasized that all efforts need to be made to solve all differences peacefully," the metropolitan said.

Such talks and meetings, even those held online, are very important for relations between the Russian Orthodox Church and the Roman Catholic Church, he said.

The first meeting between Patriarch Kirill and Pope Francis took place in Havana on February 12, 2016. One of the main issues addressed was the situation pertaining to Christians in the Middle East.

There were actually musings of a thawing and even far flung notions of reunification. Pipe dreams, but doors were opening.

Enter Commie Pope, who hates tradition and apparently his own faith.

The Orthodox can’t/won’t do anything with this clown 🤡.

I’ve seen Patriarch Kirill referred to as KGB, and also Pope Francis as KGB. In Kirill’s case it sounds probable. I wouldn’t rule it out in Francis’ case but wonder if anyone has evidence for it (other than deductions from his behavior).
