The Bible In Paintings 2 ENCOURAGEMENT FOR APPRECIATING AND APPLYING GOD'S MESSAGE |
E X O D U S CHAPTER 15 Then Moses and the Israelites sang this song to the LORD: “I will sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea. “The LORD is my strength and my song; he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I will praise him. Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? “In your unfailing love you will lead the people you have redeemed. In your strength you will guide them to your holy dwelling. The nations will hear and tremble; terror and dread will fall upon them. “The LORD will reign for ever and ever.”
Then Miriam the prophetess, Aaron’s sister, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women followed her, with tambourines and dancing. Miriam sang to them: “Sing to the LORD, for he is highly exalted. The horse and its rider he has hurled into the sea.”

To: Hebrews 11:6
Hey Mister Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I’m not sleepy and there ain’t no place I’m goin’ to
Hey Mister Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning, I’ll come followin’ you
Take me for a trip upon your magic swirlin’ ship
All my senses have been stripped
And my hands can’t feel to grip
And my toes too numb to step
Wait only for my boot heels to be wanderin’
I’m ready to go anywhere I’m ready for to fade
On to my own parade cast your dancin’ spell my way
I promise to go under it
Hey Mister Tambourine Man, play a song for me
I’m not sleepy and there ain’t no place I’m goin’ to
Hey Mister Tambourine Man, play a song for me
In the jingle jangle morning, I’ll come followin’ you

Anselm Feuerbach, #3, painted a beautiful portrait of Miriam, sister, prophetess (first female prophetess?), leader
of women, with a strong sense of righteousness and human with all its imperfections.
#9, a delightful painting by Wilhelm Hensel.
And I can’t say enough about the stained glass windows!!

As you know, when I have several fensters, I like to group them at the end. Perhaps I should post a sign over them:

Miriam has more paintings/art of her than I’d anticipate.
Stained glass even.
That’s cool. Love the different tambourines depicted..

I only found eighteen, which is barely enough to justify a stand-alone thread; I think the fewest I've ever posted was sixteen or so. There are many, many Bible stories with little art, so I must pass them by.
But I thought it was important to portray the Israelites' thankfulness for God's overwhelming salvation, so here I might have settled for fourteen or even just a dozen.

Good afternoon, Dan. Thanks very much for the Biblical dance medley - I especially liked the Poussin and the Giordano.

You can take me off this list. I tried to like God, but every day i just get more and more mad at this supposed GOOD GOD who just allows every day suffering, cruelty, hopelessness.... people only pray to him when they get cancer or depressed...if he was good he wouldn’t allow it in the first place.

To: Fawn
Fawn, I have removed you from the Ping List.
Your well-stated objection is the classic one: If God is good, why does He allow evil and suffering on this earth?
I'm not going to try talking you out of your viewpoint. Instead, I leave you in the Holy Spirit's care, and I will continue praying for you as I have since you first came to my attention nearly a year ago. You're no longer on my ping list, but you remain on my prayer list.
I end with this observation. God is in the final stages of His project to eliminate rapidly and entirely all evil and suffering: there will be none in heaven. First, though, all the billions of humans who will populate heaven must be born and have their chance to trust Him and His provision, Jesus' atonement, for their salvation. My prayer is that you, ultimately, will join us.
Dan

Thanks Dan, but every year...every month....every day i see too much horrible acts of cruelty and suffering and i can’t help but blame God...and then i get mad at ppl who ask for his help after the fact.....they forgot who allowed it to happen in the first place....

Only the Holy Spirit, Fawn, can open your eyes and heart to the truth. I know about that, because He did it for me.
I believe He is in the midst of doing that for you, too, and that is my continual prayer on your behalf. And remember: regardless of how angry you are at Him and His children, I will not stop praying, and He will not stop working.
