PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 2/18/2022

“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom” (Proverbs 18:1).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom” (Proverbs 18:1).

What you will find a lot of times, even with just average everyday sinners, is that there is more than one kind of separation and all separation are not sanctified separation.

Why do Christians that are having trouble with backslidings and stuff start to open this chasm between them and the church that got them saved and taught them the Bible? A lot of times the reason they open the chasm is because they no longer want to be accountable. They want to be separate from those folks to do what? It is so they can do what they want to do. They want to go the route they want to go, and they do not want anyone to tell them any different.

Our verse says, “Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.” We were never called to intermeddle with all wisdom. That was proven back in the garden of Eden. Right? The devil offered Eve some wisdom. She should have turned her back on and walked away. Right? But what did the devil do? The devil got her off alone, separated from her husband. It got her away from him for a while. We need to be careful about getting separated off in the wrong place. We do not have to worry about being separated in church, we need to be careful about separating ourselves away from influences that we ought to be with. Right?

“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom,” now, you know that not all wisdom is good. There is a worldly wisdom. There is a wisdom that is sensual, fleshly, devilish, right? It is carnal and it will wind up killing you. Kids, when you get that desire to close your parents off for those few years where maybe you get tired of being bossed around, and you think they are old fuddie duddies and they are squares and all that stuff (I guess square is from the last generation probably but whatever) and they don't know what's going on they don't know how to use a computer right, and they don't know anything about your games and all that kind of stuff. You lock yourself away in your room and you get involved in some wisdom that you ought not be involved with.

Folks, a wise parent will not allow the kid to sequester themselves away and just stay locked in their rooms. Sadly, some parents are overwhelmed by their own kids. They are intimidated by their own kids. I know that there can be a delicate balance to it; but a kid ought not to be allowed to just lock himself in and just cut you out and you have nothing to do in his life until he wants to eat or until he needs somebody to wash his underwear. Right?

“Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh and intermeddleth with all wisdom.”

So, my question is those of you who want to be separated away for reasons other than reading and learning the Bible, or going to Bible preaching, or for prayer and so on, my question is what kind of wisdom are you intermeddling with? What kind of wisdom are you messing around with? It is a fair question. When you are locked in your room? I have known middle age men they get their computer going and they lock their door and then nobody is allowed in while they are on their computer. Why? What are you looking at? Sometimes, I know what they are looking at. I have heard stories. That is a wisdom you don't need. That is the kind of wisdom that will kill you.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
