Russian Church for Harsh Sentences
Global Orthodox ^ | 2/12/22

As of today, amendments to the Russian Penal Code are effective which stipulate mandatory life sentences for certain criminals found guilty of sexual crimes against minors of both sexes before 18 years of age. Such legislative measures have long been requested by concerned parents and public advocacy groups.

The Chairman of the Patriarchal Commission on Family, Motherhood, and Childhood — priest Feodor Lukianov — has offered his comments on the new law.

"This is the right time to tighten criminal liability for the molestation of minors, and for spreading sexual perversion in social media," insists Fr. Feodor. "Presently there are no legal means to bar a pervert from communication with a minor, soliciting photos and videos, then blackmailing and forcing him or her into sexual contact. Such cases are abundant."

"Moreover, certain artists, rather than seeking noble goals, are catering to pervert groups. Parents finance their children attending concerts where the children partake in a full measure of pornography," added the priest.

With regard to life sentence for pedophile convicts, Fr. Feodor referred to it as the first step in the right direction. “We welcome this measure against such horrendous crimes. The prompt approval of this law by lawmakers shows that our society is on the way of moral cleansing.”

So the Bidens and the Clintons aren’t going to be visiting anytime soon.

No, the pope has been allowing, even encouraging, this stuff for centuries. The Orthodox have known about the Roman clergy’s proclivities for a long time.

A friend of mine raised "Orthodox-adjacent" in a communist country (from which he speedily migrated as soon as he was of age) characterizes the Orthodox religion as "masculine", citing the custom of standing during the services -- no pews. He says Catholicism is "feminine" because of the emphasis on Mary.

Not saying I agree or disagree-- just throwing it out there as to how a "masculine" religion ties in with traditional Russian culture. It's a hard country to live in, with severe weather and difficult agriculture. Rome, on the other hand, is in the heart of la dolce vita territory.

No offense to your buddy, but Orthodox has great, profound respect for the Mother of God. She is called the “Unconquerable General”, the “Champion Leader”, “First Among Men”, “Invincible Protection”, for example. St. Lazarus was good friends with Mary. He said if he hadn’t know Jesus Christ personally, he would have thought she was God Incarnate.

I’ve seen more men sitting during services. It’s mostly women who drive the fasting or attendance. The female saints are hard-core. The male saints are often models of gentleness and compassion.

More likely, the Catholics got rid of women so they could hook up with each other and little boys. They also romanticize spiritual concepts.

If your buddy is Orthodox-adjacent but not actually Orthodox, he wouldn’t know any of this.

True enough. Thanks for the illumination. However, where in the Bible do we find this?
