I’ve never ever thought to question if my prayers are “in line” with anything in Gods word. I learned early in my walk he wants us to come just as we are, boldly even.... It’s a relationship after all. I’ve been angry with God because I know he already knows I am so why not be honest with him ...just as I am.

I was raised in a very devout Christian home, we are always taught that prayer should be respectful and tempered. At one point in my life I had a great crisis of faith. I wound up talking to my parents next door neighbor who unbeknownst to me was a retired military chaplain; that happened to be Jewish. He echoed your comments not exactly, but in thought and spirit. Being forthright and honest greatly improve my relationship with God, I’m still respectful in my prayers but I’m honest about how I feel.

Thank you for sharing.

I have learned the same thing.

Reading Scripture actually reveals that many godly people did the same thing. Habakkuk comes to mind as one example.

Jonah was pretty mouthy and unfiltered, too.

Expressing yourself to God, telling Him what He already knows is different than asking/demanding God for something that is against His will
