PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 1/9/2022
King James Bible | 1/9/2022 | pilgrimsprogress

“Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars” (Proverbs 9:1 KJV).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars” (Proverbs 9:1 KJV).

The first seven chapters contain advice and counsel to sons. Chapters 8 and 9 deal with the praise of wisdom, and chapter 10 you really begin to look at the proverbs of Solomon. The whole book is a collection of things, called proverbs, but we’ll see in chapter ten that they truly begin in earnest. We’ll see that clearer when we get there, from chapter ten to seventeen.

You basically have a homiletical outline in chapter 9. Christ is the Person of wisdom (he is made wisdom to us), the place of wisdom is the Bible (or a Bible-preaching Church), and the price of wisdom is costly (above rubies). There can be no real wisdom without the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Person of Wisdom: The only wisdom you will find outside of Christ is a worldly wisdom, which does not come from above—so it comes from Satan.

The Place of Wisdom: Most people would not think that the wisdom would come from church. They would say it comes from universities of higher learning or a Seminary. You’ll learn more true wisdom from a local church than you’ll ever learn from any university if you have a faithful man teaching the Word of God.

The Price of Wisdom: Priceless. It took the death of Jesus Christ to impart unto us the true wisdom which comes from above (James). To get it, we will have to sell out our all to attain it.

Chapter nine is a shorter chapter, and it gets into two things. It contrasts two women. Two women, two houses, two ways, and two results. Of course, there is a good and a bad all the way through it. A good woman, a good house, a good way, and a good result. And conversely, there is a bad woman, a bad house, a bad way, and a bad result. The world, which claims not to be religious, is very religious. It uses wisdom that God calls sensuous and devilish. So, what you really see is a contrast between Christ and Antichrist. Chapter 9 has 18 verses, which is three sixes. In verse 13, the foolish woman shows up. The good woman in this chapter is Christ, or the church, while the bad woman is Mystery Babylon of Revelation chapter 17 which is the seat or vehicle of old number 13 himself, which is the devil of Revelation. The Bible tells us that he sits upon the woman.

Gipsy Smith went to visit an old Gypsy aunt who had cared for him after his mother's early death and who was lying on her deathbed.

“Auntie,” said he, as he entered the Gypsy wagon, “shall I kneel down and ask God to bless you?”

But the woman replied, “No, my boy; kneel down and thank God because He has blessed me.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
