Virginia diocese announces massive restrictions on traditional sacraments following Vatican crackdown

Bishop Burbidge of Arlington announced that he will now draw up a diocesan policy for implementing the Pope’s restrictions on the Latin Mass, and told priests not to do any Old Rite baptisms or confirmations that had not already been scheduled.

ARLINGTON, Virginia (LifeSiteNews) – A bishop in a U.S. diocese recognized for its ample provision of the traditional liturgy (Latin Mass) has become one of the first prelates to announce a ban on certain sacraments in the Old Rite, following the Vatican’s latest restrictions on the Latin Mass.

Bishop Michael Burbidge, 64, of the Diocese of Arlington sent an email to priests of the diocese December 21, in which he outlined his implementation of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments’ (CDW) December 18 document.

If it doesn’t seem broken, be sure to break it.

The Spirit of Vatican II.

For 35+ years Arlington and Lincoln have walked somewhat parallel paths.

It’s harder for Arlington as it is basically at the end of the Boston-DC corridor, which is not only rotten to the core, but arguably is the rotten core. They have Paul Scalia and some gems, but how will they make out in a situation that at the moment could turn out like either Operation Market Garden or Dien Bien Phu?

Arlington has a lot of good priests who graduated from Christendom College, some of whom (I am sure) do old Rite sacraments. The college itself is there as well. Some of the people who settled in Front Royal will be going to other locations for sacraments.

From what I hear, the TLM at parishes like St Rita’s in Alexandria is totally packed with educated, professional young adults and young families. This phenomenon is both the reason for the Bergoglian crackdown and the reason that bishops like Burbridge are getting a lot of pushback when they try to act as Bergoglio’s enforcers.

Yes. However in Lincoln, now officially the last place in North America not to be hit with the Spirit of VII at at least Tropical force winds at some point, there is no need for pushback.

Merry Christmas from a heretic Pope.

“The Spirit of Vatican II.”

Vatican II spelled the death knell of the traditional Catholic Church. It was all down hill from there.

I wonder, does a movement of Catholics go underground, a la China?

“I wonder, does a movement of Catholics go underground, a la China?”

Interesting question.

I’m Old School (I’m in my early 70s), and the traditional Latin Mass was what I grew up in. I was an altar boy, sang in the choir for Christmas and Easter (well, “sang” is probably too strong a word for my caterwauling). Then, when I was in high school Vatican II concluded and with it came about the destruction of the traditional Church. We saw the Mass drop the traditional Latin and embrace common languages (in the U.S. that was English), and usher in the abomination of the “guitar Mass.” The Mass lost its mystery, and with it its magic.

The SSPX (imperfect but increasingly vindicated by the second current Pope) is that movement; they understood what many rail about here today: The faith is the true faith but the hierarchy is corrupt and faithless.

The top cardinal of the US (Washington DC) has been defrocked and will probably be imprisoned for child rape. Think about that.
