“The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear” (Proverbs 18:14).
I am going to primarily apply this, of course, to saved people. What else can the spirit of a man do for him?
“But there is a spirit in man: and the inspiration of the Almighty giveth them understanding” (Job 32:8).
Now, I know what the modern fundamentalist says about inspiration, alright? This is the forgotten verse on inspiration, by the way. I know that when most folks talk about inspiration, as far as the “scholars” are concerned, they are talking about somebody being inspiring, or God inspiring the Bible. Right? I am not suggesting here that every man speaking in Job is enlightened with God speaking through him and giving him words like he gave the apostles to write in a Bible. After all, three of Job’s friends were about as wrong as a man can be on the subject at hand. What I am saying is that it doesn't say God inspired these folks in Job 32 to write down words, but it says, “the inspiration of the almighty giveth them understanding.”
Okay, I will tell you what I believe, and this breaks off into something else. Let us just chase this rabbit for a second here. You know those King James translators we always hear about that could not possibly have been inspired because after all, the scriptures were already inspired, and these King James translators just came out and translated. Right? It would just be horrible to say that they were inspired. Right? My question is, how do you tie that in with Job 32:8?
I will ask you this question. Have you ever prayed that God would lead you? Have you ever prayed that God would grant you wisdom, or that God would grant you understanding in the Bible or in some area where you really needed His wisdom? Have you ever prayed that? and if you've prayed it, has God ever answered it, okay? What do you call that? “Answered prayer.” Yes, but what else might you call that? Now, be careful because I do not want anybody to think here that I think that God is still inspiring original scriptures, because I do not believe that at all. I do not believe that God is inspiring another Bible. I do not believe that. I will tell you this. I believe that when God gives me understanding in something you can call it inspiration, because the verse says, “The inspiration of the almighty giveth them understanding.”
