They love the muslims because, as they have apologized to me, “muslims love Mary”. My own family friend priest said this, and believes muslims will be saved because they love Mary, but he wasn’t certain he would get to heaven, because he was worried he might do somethingin purgatory which doesnt exist, another issue altogether - that could prevent him from going to heaven.
He could not convert to islam and be saved by Mary, because he had already heard the gospel and that would mean rejecting the wordof god. So he felt he was in a worse spot than a muslim who revered Mary.

The Muslims revere Jesus too, except they don’t believe anything true about him. The same for Mary. If Muslims reject Christian christology, trinitarian theology, and soteriology, then they also must believe that Mary was just the mother of a great prophet, which no Christian would accept, because it isn’t true about her.

Are you sure you’re getting that right? I have a hard time believing that a priest wouldn’t know that once a soul is in Purgatory they can’t be lost, they can’t commit a mortal sin and fall into Hell, they are saved and are only suffering their final purification before being allowed into God’s Presence.

What? Catholics don’t believe they are “saved by Mary”. We are saved by Jesus Christ through His Death on the Cross. We venerate Mary as the Mother of God.

The face palm is your misunderstanding of Catholic teaching. Though I’m still a member of the Catholic Church, I fear you and I have one thing in common. We are of the generations of poorly catechized Catholics. Starting in college, I’ve had to relearn my faith from almost scratch. If you don’t believe Catholic teaching, that’s your right. But what you’re presenting here is a caricature of Catholic teaching. Sorry. Don’t mean to be divisive. I enjoy your posts on politics in the news forum.
If Purgatory doesn't exist, where did all those go who died between the time of Adam and when Christ opened the gates of Heaven?
