“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel” (Proverbs 12:10).
The idea here is to be a good steward of the stock. You don't want to kill off everything. Wildlife management service has an idea of how many Does versus Bucks can be killed in a year without doing complete damage to the herd. That sort of thing.
You can see that mankind has now become perverse. In those days I'm sure the kids may have gotten attached to goats and donkeys or whatever they had, but at the same time, in our day; some folks are so removed from reality to where they think that all meat comes from Cub Foods. They would be horrified to learn that their milk comes from a cow’s udder. You know people are taking their recently deceased poodle and having him cremated and building memorials for him and such things.
I think that the Bible indicates that there is a tenderness and a gentle side toward pets. Verse 10 says, “A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”
You have to go back to is Genesis 1:28-29 where it says that man was given dominion over the beasts and can do whatever he wants to do with them.
“. . . the tender mercies of the wicked or cruel,” you know something's wrong when a kid enjoys mutilating kitten. Seriously, these wackos that enjoy torturing puppies to death and that sort of thing; there is something twisted with that.
“A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.”
