PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 12/9/2021
King James Bible | 12/9/2021 | pilgrimsprogress

“He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot” (Proverbs 9:7).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot” (Proverbs 9:7).

Now, we're talking about this scorner. One preacher had laid out four personages in Proverbs. Basically, there's four guys in Proverbs that are laid out in in contrast to one another: a simple man, a wise man, a fool, and a scorner. Now, you’ll find the wicked man and the righteous man and so on, but those four keep cropping up and you're introduced to one of them here. We will run into some of these other fellows later; but in verse 7, “He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame.” This scorner is mentioned again in verse 8, “Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee.”

We live in a day now where scorners are rampant, and that's one of the reasons why we have a very difficult time making any genuine inroads into communities and housing developments and places with the gospel. It is because what they are. It is because fundamentally they are scorners. They've been turned into scorners not only by the wickedness of their own heart, but by “the god of this world” (2 Corinthians 4:4). The god of this world uses the media, TV, magazines, newspapers, and opinionated media people, Hollywood personalities, public school teachers, and college professors. So, you now have a nation that basically is filled with scorners.

“A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke” (Proverbs 13:1).

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
