PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 11/30/2021

“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar” (Proverbs 30:5-6).

The issue is not just the “word,” but “words.” If you're used to going to an evangelical church or Southern Baptist church, they lift the word up real high. “The word,” “the word,” “the word.” The writers even capitalize the word “Word” when they talk about the word of God. The Word of God—capital W—and that's all fine and good. In the meantime, what they're thinking when they say that, is the word of God is wonderful as it exists esoterically somewhere in manuscripts that doesn't exist in anybody's lap (as to a written copy of that word).

But that's not what our Bible says. It says, “Every word of God is pure,” it doesn't just say the “word of God is pure,” it says “every word of God is pure.” Well, the word is made up of words. And that is where we are stuck with this modern generation of Christians. We believe we hold the very words of God in our lap. We believe these words are pure—not just as they exist in an original language somewhere that no longer exists.

You've been told here that every word of God is pure. In Deuteronomy 4, we see that the Lord laid these sentries throughout the word of God: “Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you” (verse 2).

Do not add to it. Do not diminish from it. Right?

Psalm 12 has another: “The words of the LORD are pure words: as silver tried in a furnace of earth, purified seven times. Thou shalt keep them [these words], O LORD, thou shalt preserve them from this generation for ever” (verse 6-7).

Now, folks, we are living in times when just about anybody that's barking in your ear from the TV or the radio is lying to you, and you ought to rejoice that you have something in your lap that was written by a God and an author that cannot lie. Not only does He not lie but He cannot lie, and would not lie. “Every word of God is pure.” Consider Psalm 119:140, “Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it”

You will never find anything on this earth purer than the Bible you hold to your bosom if it's a King James Bible. You will never find anything purer. A lot of people will tell you that you are wrong. Well, they are wrong.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
