Humility is, I believe, essential to anyone who wants to witness for God - including a Pope. Francis seems to lack humility. At least that is my impression. He appears to be a self-convinced ideologue who is too often influenced by secular issues rather than guided by spirituality. I hope I’m wrong.

It’s not just your impression. He’s just about the least humble pope I’ve ever heard of. It’s no sort of humility to come into the gig and think that you’re an oracle who can scrap or change any Catholic teaching or tradition that you personally don’t like (e.g., on divorce/remarriage, communion for adulterers and abortionists, homosexual acts, homosexual unions, Latin mass, etc. etc.).

There’s never been a pope in my lifetime who’s been so ill-suited for the office. He undermines his own authority with his antics, as he perpetually seems to operate on the principle that his predecessors got it wrong. Well, if all the previous pope were all so wrong or misguided about everything, why should anyone believe that he’s right about anything?
