'Woke' church leaders are at odds with their congregations on key political issues such as taxation and the role of the market, a new opinion poll has found.
While more than half – 51 per cent – of the clergy support the imposition of high taxes to redistribute wealth, only 34 per cent of regular churchgoers feel the same way.
And while only 30 per cent of clerics say that they trust large multinational corporations, that rises to 73 per cent among their flocks.
Church leaders were also more in favour of ‘wage-shaming’ well-paid business leaders, with 82 per cent backing publicising the pay gap between businesses’ highest-paid and lowest-paid employees; but just 66 per cent of regular churchgoers support the idea.

When the churches start paying taxes then they can lecture about raising taxes.
The problems in any church could be quickly solved by way of a collection plate strike.
They obviously have no right to an opinion on taxation of others, since if doesn’t affect them, so they must be referring to money contributed by parishioners. If that’s what they’re referring to that’s fine, I’ll just redistribute what I would have given them to the people they think need it more.
How many of the 34% who think that the rich should pay more taxes are people who pay little or no taxes themselves? A survey like this should include the general income of the responders
I have always felt the government providing welfare was imposing on the church’s responsibility. People began thinking welfare was a right not a charity. The church should know who really needs it versus those loafing.
Do UK Churches pay taxes?
American Churches are exempt from several types of taxes, while the flock is not.
How can you tell who’s ‘woke’ and who’s not ? I never hear anyone on the left use the term.
If they push communism, they are woke.
