Each day in many ways God tests us, or allows us to be tested. Will I believe what God says, or will I make my own judgment? Will I go along with the crowd, or will I follow truth regardless of whether anyone believes or not? Is Sigmund Freud correct when he says I need to “love myself more”, or is God correct when he says “whoever loves their life will lose it, whoever hates their life in this world will keep it unto eternal life”? Do I need Government to provide for my needs, or does God provide? Will I forgive like Jesus Christ forgave me, or will I hold on to bitterness and resentment? Will we fear what the world fears? Or will we trust in God knowing that he told us to “fear not, for I am with thee”?
God doesn’t test us to know our faith. He already knows us inside and out, our strengths, weaknesses, failings, etc. He tests us so that we can learn to gauge our own faith. To see our weaknesses, areas where we are lacking so we can know that we need to correct course. Testing reveals places in our lives we thought were strong, but under testing they are shown to be weak. Conversely, places we believe are weak may be strong under testing. God knows all things, we do not.
Romans 12:3 […] to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
James 1:3 Knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. 4 And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
