PROFITING FROM PROVERBS

“The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted” (Proverbs 10:24).

You have to admit that one of the things that mortal men and women fight constantly is fear. The media tries to keep people scared. They try to keep us scared. I'm busy constantly trying to resist being herded in that direction from all this nonsense that we're getting all the time now from the economics people and all the stuff that's going on. I know jobs are hard to come by sometimes, and sometimes jobs are hard to keep. I understand all those things; but you still have a God, you still have a Saviour, you're still going to heaven. Your relationship with God didn't change any. You have to fight off that thing where they keep trying to push the panic button to keep you moving and to keep you scared. That is one of the most effective tools that the Devil has. He tries to keep you scared.

Now, a lost man is legitimately scared. After all, this life is all he’s got. When he reaches the end of 70 years maybe he thinks he's going to go off into nothingness. Well, he's not going off into nothingness, and he pretty much has spent his years on life trying to deny that. This is as close to heaven as he is ever going to get.

But for we that are saved, I mean obviously there's lots of things that can happen in life that aren't pleasant, that nobody wants to go through. Who wants to go through agony that lasts 20 years of their life or more. Please visit this link and read about one such woman. We have to look up and see that the end of the vision is a marvelous expectation in a marvelous hope and it just does not pay to stress with doubt and worry and fear. Some people are just in constant alarm about how bad things are. These people are ready to go hide money, buy more guns, and fill their pantries with food stocks. “The economy is going to collapse! We're going to get sick from touching saltshakers in restaurant, and we’re all just all going to die!” Well, 20 years later and these people are still in the same place. Scared to death! Do you know what is the difference over these last 20 years between people like that and people strong in faith? We’ve had cares, concerns, and troubles. We’ve cried at night over personal tragedies in our lives, but we have not spent those last 20 years curled in a fetal position quacking in constant fear of things we can do very little about. We trust it all to the God that owns our future. Somebody can kill me tomorrow; they haven’t destroyed me; they just caused me to move to a new address.

“The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him,” fear, fear, fear. I was a child in the 60s, and we all knew (we knew, we knew, we knew) that we are all going to die in a nuclear holocaust. How many of our fathers even cared enough to build a bomb shelter? They didn’t care!

But we were absolutely certain that Russia was going to bomb as into cockroaches, and so, up until a certain age I just knew that that's how I was going to die. And then there are the killer bees in today’s news. The killer bees are moving out of South America and a single sting will kill you. Now we are all going to be killed by killer bees! If that isn’t bad enough, the media is telling us that we are also all going to die from COVID-19 which was created by Donald Trump to destroy us!

I'm sorry. You cannot live in fear. They just keep coming up with something new every week and then once a while we go back and revive it. Well, relax, God’s word says, “The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.
