The Miracle Maker.

The Miracle Maker.

I have a friend who just told me she has cancer and is starting treatment. Since we met on a trip out west this past summer I have been sending her my stories. She reads them to other patients at the cancer ward and they have been blessed by them.

I am writing today about how during a storm in my life, Jesus, who walked on the water to save the disciples in their storm, sent me a miracle. During the storm involving the disciples, Jesus took authority over creation and told the wind and the waves to be still.

Several years ago, after a violent assault, I had a stroke and started to have mild seizures. As I recovered we were going to go camping at a lake. It was a hot summer day and while my husband was going to pay for the campsite I went to the swimming area and I was sitting on a float near the shore. My husband told me to stay there near the shore in shallow water. I thought that the float would keep me safe so I paddled out deeper.

I was absorbing the beauty of the water, hills and bluffs of the surrounding landscape when suddenly my body jerked, my back arched and I fell off my float. I started to sink down, I tried to tell my body to start moving, to swim, but nothing happened. I did not know it at the time but I had a grand mal seizure. I was watching the sunlight on the top of the water. And as I slowly sank deeper, and the sunlight began to get murky, I realized that I was drowning. I hit the bottom of the lake and my descent was halted.

Later I learned that during such a seizure I stop breathing, my tongue falls back and closes off my airway.

I began a desperate prayer “God please save me”. My heavenly Father began to use some of His earthly angels. A family consisting of a woman and her two teenage children was in the water and had seen what had happened and they swam to where they saw me go under. They formed a circle around, then dove down to find me.

One moment I was saying my goodbyes and prayers for my family, the next a miracle happened and my limbs were being held. I was carried up to the surface and as I broke the water line I gasped for a life saving breath!

I looked gratefully at the family that had just saved my life and as I recovered I told them about having seizures. They gently held me and swam me to shore. The woman said she would stay with me until my husband got back. I thought “oh, no I am going to be in trouble now for not listening”, but my husband was grateful to the family and was kind to me. I sat down in a chair and rested and I thought that I would never look at the lake in the same way; I had almost died in it.

I had a miracle that saved me. God is the maker of miracles and who loves His children. No matter what diagnoses you receive, believe in the Maker of miracles and in the ones who love you and are with you as you as you hold on.

When Jesus died on the cross, his flesh had been torn open and he was wounded so that we could be healed. He gave His all, He rescued mankind from the fall and the curse of the law. God used His miraculous power to take every cell that was broken and dead in Jesus' body and bring Him back to life! When Jesus came back to the disciples He was now their Savior; He took their sins, sorrows and sicknesses down to the grave and He told them you have seen a miracle! Now, go share the story. Tell the good news that God is not angry with you, the debt has been paid! Spread the story around the world!

Miracles are always ready, each day the sun rises it touches the world in light, when you hold an other's hand you are a ray of sunshine and when you pray for a miracle, the Miracle Maker always has more to give!

I think sometimes the remembrance of the storms and the people who have hurt us become the weather forecast to the future. Sometimes we can tend to live as if we are in a storm shelter so we can be safe from the storms, but we must realize that each storm has a rescue and no matter how dangerous the storm, the Rescuer is more than enough. I was given a second chance to live and as God gave me a gift I wanted to honor Him by writing stories. When we become vulnerable storm tossed survivors, the forces of nature will always rise up but the force of the will to live with a nature of praise and enjoyment can make us stronger and a help to others.

I had some moments where my brain would not let me breathe and if I had been able to I would have drowned. Those situations make me appreciate each moment that I have to breathe in fresh air and I have learned forgiveness for the man made storms. While I have been battered and bruised, I am not broken! And as long as we love God we can expect the result of the next storm to be like a brilliant purple burst of light that is amazing to see! The power of God!

I have realized that being afraid of our vulnerability is to forget that when there is no boat to carry us out of a storm, Jesus will just walk on the water and get to us, when we pray He is there with a warm blanket of everlasting love and eternal hope!

Thank you for reminding me that, through Jesus’ sacrifice, I am forgiven.

Precious, thank you so much for sharing. God loves us so much; we just need to believe it and open ourselves to receive it.
