“Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life" (Proverbs 6:25-26).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life" (Proverbs 6:25-26).

The depraved heart of man is polygamous. It is never content. The other woman is always more desirable, just as the forbidden fruit in Eden exceeded all others in appeal. The unknown is always presumed superior to the familiar. Fallen man is vulnerable to a beautiful woman, as the pleasure she embodies exceeds any other in this life. Therefore, wise men must rule their eyes and heart to resist her dangerous beauty and wiles.

Now, you have a whorish woman here. You have an adulteress, and I don't know that you associate normally those things with sitting down and eating supper; but in this case, “by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread.” One of the more common themes in stories and theater and movies and such, is a woman that lures a man in and poisons him.

So, in the gospels you have this woman who has this bread and she leavens it until the leaven is throughout the whole thing. The leaven is not the gospel, and the woman is not the church. That woman is false religion, and that leaven is false doctrine and sin, and it destroyed people.

Again, it says, “For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread.”

Do you know of a whorish religious woman that brings a man to a piece of bread? Now, folks, I don't know how you get around this one. You can't get around it; but if there is anything that's precious in Roman Catholicism, it's a little piece of bread that's broken over and over and over and over and over. 60,000,000 Christians were killed in the dark ages alone over that little piece of bread, and over disagreements on the baptismal font, because that woman will bring a man unto a piece of bread and will hunt for the precious life.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.

One interpretation of this is that an adulterous/whorish woman can reduce a man's wealth to that of a piece of bread.

We have all seen this happen...when a man gets a divorce because of an affair and is reduced to living in abject poverty.

This is the rule, not the exception.
