PROFITING FROM PROVERBS – 11/5/2021
King James Bible | 11/5/2021 | pilgrimsprogress

“And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly" (Proverbs 5:11-14).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof; And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly" (Proverbs 5:11-14).

So, sin costs you in verse 9, honor and years. Sin costs you your wealth and your labors. That’s why you need to be laboring for God, because you don't throw away that labor, folks, and then, in verse 11, “And thou mourn at the last.” It’ll cost you more in the end. Sinners sometimes leave this life spitting in God’s eye, defiant to the end; but usually not. \Usually, sinners depart this life sick and desperate and cold; and die a miserable death. They go out “mourning at the last.”

People that have spent a life time in a church that lied to him and robbed them blind of their health, and their wealth and their strength and their children will “mourn at the last,” and send them out into eternity with somebody sprinkling water in their face.

“And thou mourn at the last, when thy flesh and thy body are consumed, And say [this is the mourning], How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof.”

I wonder sometimes, when people are on their deathbed, what maybe goes through their mind, if the Lord gives them any remembrance of the truth that they’ve rejected, “How have I hated instruction.” Let us remember what that instruction was, now back to chapter 4:13 “Take fast hold of instruction; let her not go: keep her; for she is thy life.”

“And say, How have I hated instruction, and my heart despised reproof? “I hated being told I was wrong. I hated being told what to do! And here I now lie dying and on my way to hell, and I wish I had listened.”

Verse 13 and this is some more of the regret, “And have not obeyed the voice of my teachers, nor inclined mine ear to them that instructed me! I was almost in all evil in the midst of the congregation and assembly.”

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
