This coming Sunday, all Orthodox Christians who were imprisoned or killed by the godless soviet authorities in Belarus will be prayerfully commemorated together for the first time.
Last month, the Holy Synod of the Russian Church established October 30 as a day of commemoration of all such innocent victims. At the same time, it proposed that the Synods of the autonomous Churches, exarchates, metropolitan districts, and dioceses outside Russia determine their own day for memorial commemorations.
Accordingly, His Eminence Metropolitan Benjamin of Minsk and All Belarus decided that such commemorations will be offered on Sunday, October 31 this year, which coincides with the movable feast of the Synaxis of New Martyrs and Confessors of Belarus, reports the Belarusian Church.
The report also recalls that 10 years ago, the Bishops’ Council of the Russian Orthodox Church stressed that in venerating the holiness of the of the New Martyrs and Confessors, the Church “remembers not only the glorified saints, but also all the innocent victims of repression, calling on society to preserve the memory of these tragic pages of history.”
