“Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices" (Proverbs 1:31).
“Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves" (Romans 1:24).
This all started back in verse 18, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness.” If the truth doesn't mean much to you, this is the road you are on. This is the road that America is on, and you can see it all through the passage in Romans 1. Verse 25 says, “Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.”
They “worship and serve the creature.” There are actually people that think their dog is a person. People talk about how terrible the economy is, and yet they cremate their dogs at great expense all the time, and set up memorials for them? The economy must not be so bad for them. This country is weird! When folks can grieve inordinately about the death of a dog, it’s just weird. When a Canary dies, and folks have to have a funeral for it? Come on!
Back to Romans, Paul writes, “For this cause God gave them up to vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature: And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another” (vss. 25-26). The Bible is the only book in the world that gives you the genesis of the homosexual perversion. It's the only book in the world, unless you believe the garbage that comes out in psychiatry manuals, that it is an inherited trait. The Bible is the only book that opens it up and show you that the problem is that man did not love the truth and you put God and them first, and that's where it all comes from.
Now, what we really need to see in verse 27, is that these truth rejectors “receive in themselves that recompense of their error which was meet.” We were talking about the connection. “Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices,” and in the end they wind up reaping what they sow. These people receive in themselves the recompense of their error and its meet, or as Webster’s 1828 dictionary says, “proper.” Their punishment is appropriate.
