“Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain” (Proverbs 25:14).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“Whoso boasteth himself of a false gift is like clouds and wind without rain” (Proverbs 25:14).

They are like “clouds and wind without rain.” These guys have, just like The Jimmy Swaggarts of this world, and whoever else preceded them like the Robertsons and Bakkers, and whatever other nonsensical organizations now that are on Christian TV. Those folks all boast false gifts, and there are some reasons you can know that. For instance, they don't conduct their ministries anything like in the Bible. Just go to a couple places in your Bible.

Look at a verse in Mark 6. Let’s just camp here for a little while on this issue of false gifts. There are lots of places this applies to, not just the Christian 3-ring charismatic circus. We'll talk about those in other lessons.

“And he could there do no mighty work, save that he laid his hands upon a few sick folk, and healed them. And he marvelled because of their unbelief. And he went round about the villages, teaching” (Mark 6:5-6).

To these people, these gifts of healing and tongues and miracles are the epitome of everything; however, just note here how this is worded talking about Christ. “He could there do no mighty work,” in other words, what he accomplished there was just the healing of a few sick folks. It wasn't a big deal. It's not what He would have liked to have done. That is not how their ministries present these gifts, right? For Jesus Christ, healing somebody was basically nothing, right? It says that “He marveled because of their unbelief,” so He “went round about the villages teaching.” In other words, he healed some folks that probably didn't even believe like a charismatic says you must believe to be healed!

Isn't that interesting? How about that false gift!

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
