“He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend” (Proverbs 22:11).

TOPICS: Ministry/Outreach
KEYWORDS:
“He that loveth pureness of heart, for the grace of his lips the king shall be his friend” (Proverbs 22:11).

“Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth [cursing, swearing, profane nonsense], but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers” (Ephesians 4:29).

Now, I’m certain that you probably don't have any corrupt communication coming out your lips, but at look Proverbs 15:26. We are just presenting the other side of this where, yes, we're Bible believers. We are militants. We live in a world where everybody is smooth talking and many of the TV preachers are first cousin to snake oil salesmen, as far as religious things are concerned. Don't be a Joel Osteen. Tell your hearers the absolute truth about what's right and what’s wrong, right? At the same time, the exercise of diplomacy is a good thing.

“The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD: but the words of the pure are pleasant words” (Proverbs 15:26).

We saw that Christ had grace on his lips. A man pure of heart has pure words that come out of his mouth, and they are pleasant words. That doesn't mean they all have to be pleasant, as if he can never say the word hell, or tell somebody that they need to be born again or else they are going to go to hell, all that sort of thing; but there's also a way of saying those things, right? Who hasn't experienced before somebody saying something that is perfectly neutral but the tone they used and the attitude that accompanied the words made them not neutral at all, right? There are ways of saying, “good morning,” that leaves everyone in the room knowing that you are not having a good morning at all.

Sometimes folks get into complete turmoil and strife and contention on the street and on doorsteps and with brethren because of that sort of thing. You say something and it could have been said better with a different attitude or tone of voice, and you would not have wound up not going down into the tank in contention and strife.

Daily Bible study is necessary if we are going to begin our day with the right attitude and the right spiritual diet. Proverbs has 31 chapters, and most months have 31 days, so let's read a chapter of Proverbs a day and see what God might have for us. As the Lord leads, share with us what God has shown you in a special way and by His grace let us build up a devotional repository. Let's keep our knives and forks handy for some daily bread! Ideally, a chapter or two of Proverbs will fit in nicely with a good plan of reading our Bibles through each year.

If anyone would like to be added to the ping list, please let me know either by post or by p.m.
